Gor Mahia Snap Up NSL Top Scorer Veron Ombima to Fix Goal Drought

Record FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia have moved quickly to bolster their attack by signing Veron Ombima, the National Super League’s (NSL) joint top scorer.

The former Darajani Gogo striker lit up the just-concluded NSL season, bagging 22 goals — finishing level with Fortune Sacco’s Elias Mugane. His goalscoring heroics helped Gogo secure fourth place with 62 points, narrowly missing the Promotion/Relegation Playoff on goal difference.

A Statement Signing

Ombima had attracted interest from several top clubs, and Darajani Gogo were keen to keep him. But Gor Mahia flexed their muscle and won the race for his signature, adding much-needed firepower to a squad that struggled in front of goal last season.

The 21-time league champions have been busy reshaping their squad under new head coach Charles Akonnor, who was unveiled on August 1 after Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno and his entire technical bench were shown the door following a rare trophyless campaign.

On Tuesday, August 5, Ombima was spotted in K’Ogalo colours, joining his new teammates in their first training session under Akonnor.

Building a New Era

Gor Mahia’s assistant coach Kobi-Mensah Bismark praised the striker’s quality, noting the club’s recruitment is based purely on talent and tactical fit — not just names.

“It is not about whether a player is foreign or local. With quality, players can always execute the plan of the coach,” he told the club’s media.

The Ghanaian technical team has made it clear they want to assemble a squad that can dominate locally and compete on the international stage, and Ombima’s arrival is seen as a crucial step in that direction.

Futaa Fisaa Verdict

With Gor Mahia desperate to bounce back, Ombima’s goals could be the difference between another frustrating season and a return to glory. Fans will be eager to see if the NSL hotshot can replicate his lethal form in the FKF Premier League.

Editor’s Note: This signing is more than just a transfer — it’s a signal of intent from K’Ogalo as they look to rise again.
